Dear Future Employee

Dear future employee,

As you strive to find a good fit position and seek a new job, keep in mind these four things are what many organizations are truly looking for from you:

  1. Cultivate visible positivity and gratitude.  Notice and celebrate with sincerity and enthusiasm.  And not just when it is easy.  Cultivating positivity is most important when it's not easy.  Staff meetings.  Intense or stressful moments.  The unexpected.  Your positivity should be a state of mind that others can rely on when needed most.  Carry yourself and your thoughts in a positive manner.
  2. Commit to feeling challenged and achieving extraordinary outcomes.  Let your guard down.  Invite others in to provide feedback and make time for self-reflection.  Allow yourself to be vulnerable.  The act of growing takes incredible amounts of vulnerability and courage, with ourselves and with others.  Be a relentless learner.  Expand your mind to be better and do better.
  3. Devote time to collaboration.  Even though collaboration can be uncomfortable at first, the more you do it, the better it becomes.  And during collaboration allow space for other ideas.  Collaboration should be energizing and not feel forced.  Take the lead in creating this culture amongst your team.  Get in the middle of the action when necessary to challenge, nudge, celebrate and spur on initiatives.
  4. Add value to the team.  Look inward when things aren't as you'd like them to be, and give collective credit when things are going well.  Have a servant mindset from the moment your work day begins to the moment it ends.  Nothing is "someone else's" job, but rather we all can work together to accomplish what needs to get done.
